John B. Shepard, CFA
John Shepard is a portfolio manager, a member of the Investment Policy Committee, and a director with ZWJ Investment Counsel.
Mr. Shepard joined ZWJ in 2003 and has over twenty years of investment management experience. His investment career began in 1987 as an analyst at First Wachovia Investment Management in Atlanta, covering health care and transportation issues. Mr. Shepard was a portfolio manager at Wellington Management from 1989-1999 managing separate accounts on behalf of pension funds, endowments, and private individuals. From 1999-2003, he managed Shepard Investment Counsel.
Mr. Shepard is a graduate of Duke University with a BA in Economics and classical Studies. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business with a concentration in Finance. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Mr. Shepard is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Atlanta.
Mr. Shepard is active in the community serving as an elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church, and is the past president of the Duke in Atlanta Alumni Association and the Lovett Alumni Association. Mr. Shepard is active in scouting and with Troop 232 and Pack 212. Mr. Shepard helped initiate and is the long-time Atlanta moderator for the University of Chicago Investment Challenge, a national stock picking contest.
He and his wife, Peggy, have a son, Duncan, and a daughter, Margaret.
